I hail from a close-knit Italian American family in New Jersey, where Sunday dinners and holidays were always a big affair. We shared many unforgettable moments, filled with love, laughter, and mouth-watering homemade meals prepared by my beautiful mother, who taught me the value of family and its importance in life.
Unfortunately, my world turned upside down when I lost my mother at age 18, and I had to work part-time at a bank to support myself through high school.
1972, I married a Vietnam War veteran and was blessed with two wonderful children. After a hiatus, I returned to work in 1982 at St. Michael's Medical Center, Newark, NJ, where I spent 23 years assisting patients with various health issues and consoling their loved ones.
After leaving St. Michael's, I worked as a Billing Manager in Gastroenterology for four years before being blessed with a beautiful grandson in 2017. I enjoy spending time with him and taking him on fun-filled outings, but unfortunately, my kidney failure has put a damper on these activities lately.
In 2022, I resumed my career as an office manager at a funeral home, where I provided compassion and dignity to family members during their difficult times.
Due to Kidney Disease, I have been on temporary disability since December 20, 2023, and adjusting to hemodialysis has been challenging. I am currently employed with SCI and look forward to returning to work with them soon. Finding a kidney donor will enable me to do that and so much more!
I believe that everyone has a purpose as long as they have a pulse.
My quality of life suffers significantly on dialysis, and I know the survival rates decrease as the years go on.
To truly achieve the quality of life I hope to live, a kidney transplant is my best and only hope.
A kidney transplant will allow me a longer life. It will allow me to continue my life’s journey and my career.

A kidney transplant will allow me a longer life. It will allow me to continue my life’s journey and my career.
A kidney transplant will allow me to create more memories with family and friends. Most of all, a transplant will let me witness my children and grandchildren achieve their milestones and become the people I have been raising them to be.

There are many benefits to becoming a living donor for the recipient. One of the most apparent benefits is that you can save a life or drastically improve the quality of life for the recipient. Long-term survival is markedly improved among patients who receive a donor kidney compared with patients who remain on dialysis. When a recipient has a living donor, the wait time for a transplant is shorter, and the transplant can be scheduled. This allows for donations to occur when the recipient is in good health and is convenient for both the donor and the recipient, such as during summer vacation or winter break.
Live organs that are transplanted last longer than cadaveric organs, and live organs begin to function more quickly than cadaveric donations. This helps ease the process for the recipient, and frees up a cadaveric kidney for another recipient.

About Hackensack Meridian Donor Program…
Hackensack University Medical Center's Kidney Transplant Program is among the fastest growing in the nation. Due to our donor-recipient matching, patients who come to Hackensack for kidney transplantation have much shorter waiting times to receive a deceased donor kidney than other centers in the tri-state area. If you are living with progressive, chronic kidney disease or kidney failure, you may be a candidate for a kidney transplant.
Types of living donor transplants can include:
· Living donors who are biologically related to the recipient
· Living unrelated donors, such as a spouse, friend, or co-worker
· Paired kidney donation, which involves an exchange with two or more incompatible pairs so that each recipient is matched with a compatible living donor kidney
· ABO-incompatible transplants, which may be possible if a donor can donate to someone with a different blood type
· Altruistic or non-directed donors come forward to donate with no intended recipient identified. They often enter the paired exchange program and start a chain of transplants.
· Remote donation allows a donor to be evaluated and have surgery closer to home
· Advanced donation allows donors to donate within a specified timeframe and provides their recipients with a voucher for a transplant when they are ready to receive it.
